Fionnuala Sweeney Journalist & Newscaster
Fionnuala Sweeney is a presenter for CNN International "World News" and "World News Europe".
She works in CNN's London Bureau at present but was previously based in Atlanta where she
presented "World News".
Before joining CNN in Atlanta in 1994 Fionnuala worked for RTE as a radio and television news
reporter and newscaster from 1988 to 19943. In 1993 she was selected to present the Eurovision
Song Contest on behalf of RTE, broadcast live from Millstreet, Co. Cork, to 350 million viewers
in three languages.
Fionnuala was born in Belfast and was a pupil at St. Dominic's High School before moving to
Dublin where she attended Alexandra College. She studied journalism in the National Istitute
for Higher Education (now DCU). She graduated with honours B.A. in English and History and a
Higher Diploma in Education from University College, Dublin.
Fionnuala studied music in the School of Music, Belfast, and continued her studies in the
Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin. She studied speech and drama with Betty Ann Torney,
Belfast, and completed her studies in the Betty Ann Norton School of Speech and Drama, Dublin.
Fionnuala spent many school holidays in Glendowan and is a regular visitor to Donegal.
