Bonnie Williams
No. 22

My name is Bonnie Williams, I live in Roswell, NM.
My grandfather on my mother's side was John Sweeney and was born in 1844 (we believe in Tennessee), he was a Union soldier during the Civil War. He was married to a Sarah Helms, and we believe they lived in Birchtree, Mo, at the time of her death.
John died in the early 1900's and is buried in the Counts Cemetary in Reynolds County, Mo.
Any information you can give me would be appreciated.
Thank you, Bonnie Williams

Hi, I live in Brisbane- Queensland- Australia. I am the fourth generation Sweeney to live in Queensland that we know of. Our family story is: William Sweeney born: 1865 - Scotland, son of William Sweeney & Sarah Sweeney (O'Neill). Came to Townsville, Queensland, Australia where is meet and married Edith Ah See in 1900, he fathered 3 children. Mary Edith (died at birth), William Henry, Charles Edward (my grandfather). In 1908 William was killed in an drowning accident and is buried in the Townsville cemerty Queensland. William worked on boat in the engine department. The family story is that William did have brothers and sisters and he was the only one to come to Australia. I am hoping that this information could fill in the missing link to another member of my Sweeney line.

Hi! I just recently started tracing my Irish Roots. I DON'T have alot of info. for you to go on, but I hope by posting this information, I will connect with someone who knows my family.
My Great Grandfather was Joseph Sweeney b. 1850, Ireland. Joseph m. Elizabeth McGrand b. 1862(?) in Canada.
On the 1900 census for Superior , Douglas Co., Wi. Joseph list his parents born in Ireland and in the United States for 48 years.
Margaret McGrand's parents are listed as father b. in Ireland and mother b. in Canada.
Joseph and Margaret had the following children:
Joseph b. 1890 Canada
Vincent b. 1892 Superior, Douglas Co., Wi.
Pauline b. 1894 Superior, Douglas Co., Wi.
They re-located to St. Louis, time frame unknown. The daughter Paruline became a nun with the Sisters of Loretta.

My only living Sweeney relative, is an aunt who says that Joseph carved Organs for a living before his sight began to fail , and lived in Mass. and Vermont, before moving to Canada where he married Margaret.
If this little bit of information sounds familiar to anyone, please let me know.
Thanks,
Karen Wise,
Baton Rouge, La.

Hello, I am trying to find the birth place of my gg-grandfather, Timothy Sweeney. He was born around 1820 in Ireland. He came to the United States around 1845-1850 and settled in St. Charles County, Missouri. His father may have been John Sweeney and I think his mother was Mary Wallace. He became a US citizen in 1857. A Thomas Sweeney who was born in Ireland and lived near Timothy, became a US citizen on the same day. It is possible that Thomas was a brother. Church records in St. Charles County, also indicate Timothy had a sister named Mary.
Timothy married Nancy Jane Price. They had many children together. All the children were born in St. Charles County, Missouri. Timothy died around 1875. Nancy and the children moved to Tulare County, California. Many Sweeney family members are still in Tulare County.

I am still trying to determine whether my Sweeney/Kennedy/McLaughlin/ McCole/Maneilus ancestors lived in Ardara or Beagh. Sweeney's, Kennedy's and Maneilus's rented land in Killybegs Lower, according to info in Griffiths Valuations.
My gr-grandfather, Edward Sweeney and at least two of his brothers (John and Hugh) emigrated to western Pennsylvania by 1860-62. My gr-grandmother, Bridget Kennedy emigrated to Pittsburgh PA, along with her mother ( Bridget McLaughlin-Kennnedy-Harkins ) in the 1850s. Edward Sweeney and Bridget Kennedy married in June 1862 in Pittsburgh. Edward Sweeney's mother was also named Kennedy (Catherine).

Dear Sweeney Clan, My great grandmother was Margaret Sweeney, born in County Donegal around March 1849(?) to Michael Sweeney and ? McAteer. She had a younger brother Francis Patrick, born approximately 1852. Her father had a brother, John Sweeney, who married Ellen McGettigan and they had a daughter Susan who was born around 1854.
Margaret Sweeney emigrated to the U.S. in 1870, her cousin Susan about 1871 and brother, Francis(Frank) around 1874. There were also nieces, Agnes and Annie Sweeney, who came to the U.S. and worked for some years and then returned to Ireland and died there. They most likely died after 1900 as I found Agnes in the federal census living with Margaret's sister-in-law in 1900. Agnes and Annie also had a brother who did the same as them, but I don't know his name.
I would like to find out the town and parish my Sweeneys came from so I can continue my research. I did find a Margaret Sweeney who departed from Derry in 1870 and it listed her town as Ballynabrockey, Tamney in the upper Fanad area. I have been unable to prove if this was my great grandmother.
I appreciate any help out there in cyberland.
Sincerely,
Richard Seibert.

Hello,
My mother was a Sweeney and I would be very interested in tracing her ancestors but I am not sure how to goa about it. I know that they came from Sligo around the 1840s - not a lot of help really. Are there lists of emigrants that you know of by any chance?

Tony Volpe.
