I'm searching for information about my ggrandfather. His name was Cornelius(Neal)Sween(e)y. He may have been born in Scotland about 1810. He was married to Mary Hiskins(?).
They lived in Philadelphia, Pa in 1860 when they had a daughter Cecelia. The also had two other daughters named Annie and Sarah.
Cecelia, my grandmother married Francis (Frank) Kelly. Cornelius died in Phila. in 1895.
Thank you ,

I honestly don't know much about my family on my father's side. My father grew up in Stickney, IL USA and I grew up in Cicero, IL USA. Beyond that, my heritage is a mystery. Unfortunately, my paternal grandfather died on 09/11/76, my father died on 06/12/98 and my paternal grandmother is a victim of a stroke and is living in a nursing home. She is unable to communicate. I was surfing the web and found this website quite by accident. I would love to find out more about my family's heritage but I have no idea where to start. I really enjoyed this website and I know I will visit it often. Thanks!

My Sweeneys left Ireland in the 1840s from Leitrim and went to Canada. There were two brothers named Francis and Patrick Sweeney. Enroute they met a widow named Mary Fox who had a daughter named Mary Fox. All were shipwrecked before they reached Canada. Later Francis married the mother and Patrick married the daughter. These families were in Peterborough and then Strathroy before moving to Isabella County in Michigan. The names Francis and Patrick are repeated right up to this generation. Is anyone missing these Sweeneys? Descendants married into the Judge, Tighe, McNulty, McHale (as in Archbishop John McHale) families.
