Marie Phillips
No. 334

Hi. My name is Marie (Sweeney) Phillips. I have information on John Sweeney and Margaret Maguire's family from Pottsville, PA. This information was received from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, PA.

12/10/1866 John Sweeney married Margaret Maguire

Their children:

D.O.B.
11/04/1867 Margaret
05/12/1870 Mary
07/27/1871 Elizabeth
05/04/1873 William
01/12/1876 James
10/13/1877 Ellen
04/12/1879 John
04/09/1881 David
08/11/1883 Felix
06/20/1885 Cecelia

I can't confirm this, but it's possible that the father, John Sweeney was born in Pottsville, PA around 1837, and his parent's names were James Sweeney and Maria Kuner (sp?). Also can't confirm this, but it's possible that the mother, Margaret Maguire was born in Pottsville, PA on 12/17/1843, had a twin brother named Patrick, and her parent's names were Dennis McGuire and Catherine Burns.

If there are any descendants out there, who have more information, I'd be glad to hear from them!

Ellen Sweeney, my grandmother
Homeland: Kerry Facts
County: Kerry
Province: Munster
Capital: Tralee

BIOGRAPHY: Ellen came to the US via Ellis Island on the Cedric on April 24, 1911 at the age of 18. 1915 lived at 228 East 26 Street, New York, New York (her sister's immigration records) She worked on estates were she met and married Emil Boller. Ellen worked for the Whitneys, Streeters, Jones, Caldwells, Savages, Frelinghuysens, just to name a few.

Ellen was 5 foot 7 inches, brown eyes, and black hair, she resembled her mother Mary Sheridan. Ellen always felt that being the first born was a disappointment to her father Edward because she was not a boy. Grandma had to leave elementary school to work the farm. Grandma learned alot about farming and managing animals and the animals population. Her skills as a cook carried her and her familythrough the depression. Her family never went hungry as did alot of people inthe neighborhood during this difficult time in American history.

Ellen became a citizen of the United States on May 2, 1966, she received her citizenship papers on July 10, 1966.
She died peacefully at home at the age of 92.

Immigration: In 1911 upon Ellie's arrival she went to:
Aunt Ellen Sheridan
77 Broad Street
Newark, NJ

Father: Edward Sweeney (McSweeney) - Born in Inchinaught, Ireland
Need more info on Edward
Mother: Mary Sheridan Sweeney, Born County Longford, Ireland
Need mre info on Mary

I have been hitting a brick wall for over a year now and I have lost hope in finding my ancestors in Ireland

I would appreciate any help, because I really need it. Thank you, Cathy Amelio

Hello:

I am researching the genealogy for my great-grandmother Charlotte Laflamme of St Pierre de Malbaie, Qc. She was born June 1, 1879, daughter of Pierre Laflamme (Pierre Laflamme & Margeurite Cassovi) and Rachel Sweeney (Edouard Sweeney & Charlotte Stibre)

She married Samuel Grenier of Newport, Qc (Adam Grenier & Françoise Baudin) on Oct 13, 1896 in.St Pierre de Malbaie, Qc.

Their daughter Catherine Alberta was my maternal grandmother, born Oct 11, 1910 in St Pierre de Malbaie, Barachois, Gaspe, QC

It would be appreciated if you could be of assistance in obtaining the lineage into Canada for my line of these Sweeneys
I thank you very much in advance for your contribution to my tree.

Yours truly,
Manon Bolduc

My maternal grandmother was Mary MacSweeney. I understand she grew up in the Village of Mallow, County Cork. I believe she was born in 1889 (approx.). Somewhere between 1910 & 1921, she married an Englishman, Leanord Richman and moved to Canada and then back to England, until her death in 1962. I believe she had sisters named Kathleen & Theresa & several TALL brothers (as the story goes.)

I visited Mallow briefly in 1987 and it didn’t seem that big - can there be loads of MacSweeney family groups there? I’d love to hear from descendants of my "Nana’s" siblings. And later, learn as much family history as I can.

I look forward to hearing from some of our clan. I live in Maple Ridge (a suburb of Vancouver) British Columbia, Canada.
