Chris Sweeney
No. 140
Hi, my name is Christopher Sweeney and I live in the New Forest which is in the South Of England on the coast. I have two brothers, Shaun and Jonathan who live nearby. We are all married and have seven Sweeney children between us. My father Joseph was born in 1914 in London and died this year in Poole. His father was an army Sergeant in England but originated from Ireland, he later set up a shoe shop in Tidworth, England. I have uncles, Eugene, Jimmy (deceased), Michael (deceased) and Patrick (Pat). My dad also had a sister, Maureen, but she died aged three. The above may help in the searches you are making and hopefully will trigger some responses to me as my brothers and I have recently commenced researching our "roots". Thankyou all in anticipation.

Susan Margaret Sweeney
No. 147
Hello Sweeneys,
I am just beginning to search my family tree and do not have much information. My name is Susan Margaret Sweeney. I live in the north east of England, but was born in Bristol. My father was Alfred Edmond Sweeney, born Easton in Gordano near Bristol 1920, married Kathleen Amy Bradshaw, died 1976. His father was Francis Sweeney, born in Ireland, year unknown, married Elsie Neal. My father had 2 sisters, dorothy and Edna. My great grandfather was Patrick MacSweeney, and I would like to find out more about him. I was told he came from a large family, and lived around the Cork area. I know I have relatives in Ireland, as my father visited some aunts while on honeymoon. I would also like to know why the ' Mac ' was dropped from our name. Any explanations please? If any of these names rings a bell with anyone I would be most grateful to hear from you, as I don't have any family left to ask and I would love to find some living relatives as well as ancestors.

Hi All,
I'm trying to find out, for sure, if I am a Sweeney or McSweeney descendant.
I am looking for a Catherine Sweeney/McSweeney, that married a Patrick William
Burns. I have a picture of "Kate" McSweeney, who is a cute little lady, but I
don't think I would want to get on her bad side!
Patrick and Catherine were both, supposedly, from Ireland, and ended up in
Oswego, NY. My grandfather, Thomas Francis Burns, was born 10 Mar 1891, in
Oswego, and his brother, Edward Joseph, was born abt 2 yrs. later.
Upon Catherine's death, 13 Sept 1927, Patrick had been dead for three years,
and the person that made the funeral arrangements was Mrs. Sweeney, and was
living at the same address. In the funeral records, Catherine's father's name
was listed as Sweeney.
The rub comes, when my grandfather's Baptismal Certificate lists his mother as
Josephine Kelly, and on his Marriage Affidavit for the State of New York, his
mother is listed as Catherine Kelly.
If anyone knows about the Sweeney/McSweeney side of this, I would love to hear
from you.
